Literature Text

Behind these blue-green contacts,
My eyes are a molten gold,
And right above the skin you see,
The shadow of a phantom pelt hovers.
Extending out of my spine,
An invisible tail wags.
But you don’t notice,
You don’t see,
No one ever sees.

I have to hide everyday,
Whenever humans come too close,
I hide myself, walk upright,
Flatfoot, with loud, clumsy steps.
You think it’s normal.
You think I’m being myself.
But you don’t notice,
You don’t see,
No one ever sees.

Everyone makes mistakes,
And I sometimes don’t act human,
I sit on my haunches,
Or on the floor,
And sometimes my temper,
Let’s itself out in growls,
But you don’t notice,
You don’t see,
No one ever sees.

My friends sometimes have werewolf conversations,
Brought on by my ever-present copy of Blood and Chocolate,
They speak lies of poison silver, and
Talk of wolves’ vicious lust for human flesh,
It hurts, and I correct them because of that,
But they call my words of “real werewolves,”
An oxymoron, as if we don’t exist, or never have.
But they don’t notice,
They don’t see,
No one ever sees.

Lone wolf, Leaderless, guideless,
A young pup to face the world by herself.
I realize that my eyes hold the look,
Of a lost puppy, and I wish,
I had a pack to belong to,
I want to be part of a group,
I wish I could befriend someone like me.
But you don’t notice,
You don’t see,
No one ever sees.

My ears turn back when we argue,
My arms itch to run more than my legs do,
Sometimes hunger forces me to eat,
With a muzzle that doesn’t exist,
And I chew too much gum, as the instinct,
To gnaw is too strong,
But you don’t notice,
You don’t see,
No one ever sees.
Old poem. Just figured I'd put it up anyway.
